Technology

FEELPURE™ FBC (Fuel Borne Catalyst): Pirelli’s first DPF solution featuring an iron-based liquid catalyser.

FEELPURE™ AR (Aided Regeneration): an advanced technology, still linked to the liquid catalyser technology, developed to guarantee correct functioning of the filtering system for urban and Stop & Go applications with low exhaust gas temperatures thanks to special super-heating glow plugs. Thanks to this technology the FEELPURE™ diesel particulate trap is capable of regenerating from 160°C.

FEELPURE™ is composed of a:

  • Muffler comprised of a filter (particulate trap) in porous silicon carbide enclosed in a stainless steel canning and inlet/outlet end can for exhaust gases. In the FEELPURE™ AR version the inlet end can is equipped with the glow-plugs for the aided regeneration.
  • Control system of exhaust backpressure with alarm warning inside the vehicle on the dashboard with relevant wiring and connections (the backpressure alarm is set to the value of the maximum backpressure admissible by the engine);
  • Catalyst dosing system, to add automatically to the fuel the catalyst needed for the regeneration;
  • Liquid Catalyst (CAM FBC) to allow the ignition of  regeneration process at around 280°C

Environmental Performance

  • Reduction over 95% PM and up to 99,8% Pn (Particles number)*; PM triggers health problems like cancer, asthma and heart attacks and increases hospital admissions and days off sick.
  • Zero secondary emissions: no increase in NOx and average reduction of NO2 of 50%. Nitrogen dioxide is toxic by inhalation four times grater than NOx . Long-term exposure to NO2 causes adverse health effects like bronchitis, allergies, irritation, pulmonary edema.

Above mentioned results for the environment have been certified by: the Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC of Ispra), the Italian Minister of Transport, and Eni Technology (Italy) , the University of Biel following the VERT procedures required by the Swiss authorities (Switzerland), TUV and DEKRA accordingly to the German regulations.

Product Range

Pirelli offers a full range of products to meet the requirements to reduce emissions in those areas (Low Emission Zones) where vehicles which do not meet certain pollution standards will be discouraged by charging.

All muffler designs for FEELPURE™ systems for RETROFIT application are developed on the original chassis, with tailor-made solutions (BESPOKE SYSTEMS) The installation of these systems is actually a quick replacement, and matches the original in terms of size, supports and mountings.

Pirelli produces BESPOKE SYSTEMS i.e. for IVECO STRALIS, MERCEDES ACTROS, MERCEDES CITARO, SCANIA Series 4, VOLVO Series FH, FL, FM.

Pirelli offers also STANDARD SYSTEMS – that can be simply adapted to the vehicle in place of the original muffler -, spare parts and a cleaning service for the cartridges integrated in the FEELPURE™ systems.
