Pirelli Awarded a contract for particulate filters by SITA (Suez Group) in the Netherlands

<text>
              Pirelli Eco Technology, a company in the Pirelli Group operating in technology for lowering pollutant emissions from diesel engines, signed an agreement to supply innovative particulate filters to SITA (SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT). SITA is a leading company in The Netherlands and in other European countries in waste management. The aim of the initiative is to reduce the particulate emissions from the SITA garbage trucks by more than 95%.

Using this new technology SITA will become a leader in clean waste collection."We have set ourselves high goals" said Eddy de Jong, Fleet Manager at SITA. "With the filters that were on the market we could not have reached this goal, given that those filters function only with high temperature engines. SITA only drives small distances so the filters had to be adjusted to this. By applying the Pirelli filters SITA is making its next step in terms of durable waste management."

New emissions limits are required by regulations from Dutch Environment Ministry VROM. These state that only Euro 2 and 3 vehicles with a diesel particulate filter can access the environmental zones, e.g. in inner cities. The amount of soot produced by the SITA trucks with a Pirelli filter will be as low as in Euro 4/5, depending on the age and engine of the vehicle.

"The choice of Sita" - said Niels de Zwaan, Business Development Director of Pirelli Eco Technology for Northern European countries - "demonstrates how the simple substitution of the muffler and installation of the new Pirelli regeneration filter system is effective in combating particulate matter emissions. Our innovative new technology is available in 40 different solutions for garbage trucks, buses & LDVs, and complies with EU norms in terms of pollutant emissions for all Low Emission Zones."

Pilot project launched ahead of Olympic Games

                The
                Italian Ministry for the Environment
                signed an
                agreement
                with the
                Municipality of Beijing
                to launch a
                pilot project
                in the Chinese capital for
                testing particulate filter technology developed by Pirelli Eco Technology
                , able to reduce
                by more than 95% particulate emissions from diesel engines
                .

                The agreement, signed today in Beijing by
                Shi Hanmin
                , Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau of Beijing and
                Corrado Clini
                , Director General of the Italian Ministry for the Environment, in the presence of
                Marco Tronchetti Provera
                , Chairman of the Pirelli Group, calls for installation of Pirelli filter systems on heavy duty vehicles (mainly buses, but also trucks and later snowploughs and tractors) used by the local public transportation company. The first filter systems will be installed before the start of the Olympics, and the rest after the Summer.

                This project is part of a wider Sino-Italian Collaboration Program for Environmental Protection - begun in 2000 - which has realized more than 80 projects for elaboration and experimentation of advanced technology solutions for sustainable development in China.

Ahead of the Beijing 2008 Olympics, the Italian Ministry for the Environment has strengthened its cooperation with the Beijing Municipality and has supported the city in its "Green Olympics" Program with numerous projects in mobility and sustainable urban planning, monitoring and control of air and water pollution, prevention of sandstorms, and environmental education.

This new project launches a pilot test in China of Pirelli's particulate filter technology. The filter systems designed in Italy can be installed on vehicles already in circulation (retrofit), and represent a solution that can be applied immediately and inexpensively, which guarantees considerable environmental advantages very quickly. Pirelli particulate filters are currently fitted on public transportation vehicles, company cars, and private vehicles in various Italian cities. Since 2008, the Company has also started marketing its filter systems in Germany, the Netherlands and Britain. In the second half of this year, in addition, the new factory in Gorj (Romania) will begin production, mainly dedicated to original equipment filters for automobiles. In addition, the joint-venture agreement Pirelli is currently negotiating with Russian Technologies includes the possible start of particulate filter manufacturing in Russia.

                The Italian Minister for the Environment,
                Stefania Prestigiacomo
                , emphasized that "
                The agreement represents not only a way of reducing particulate emissions and protecting the environment, but also bears witness to technological innovation in the environmental field realized by Italy and exported to China and around the world. The environmental cooperation with China, one of the most demanding programs of this Ministry, has, in fact, a goal of supporting an effective strategy for global protection of the environment, inserting itself positively into the rapid evolution of Chinese environmental policy, and placing itself as an example of Italian excellence in public-private cooperation.
                "

                "
                The theme of air quality
                " - commented
                Marco Tronchetti Provera
                , chairman of the Pirelli Group -
                is by now vital to all the main cities around the world, due to traffic congestion. We are finding, in Italy as in Europe and in other countries around the world, growing attention by public administration authorities to policies and technologies that can help reduce polluting emissions. We are pleased that the city of Beijing has decided to test our solution and we hope that this pilot project will be the first step on a long journey together. We are also very pleased with the fruitful collaboration with the Ministry for the Environment, a demonstration of the importance for our country of the union between the public sector's skill in systemic response, and the technology and know-how of the private sector
                ".

Pirelli to Supply Particulate Filters for Buses to the Arriva Italia Group

<text>
              This solution will allow reduction of more than 90% of particulate emissions for 150 inter-city buses circulating in the provinces of Bergamo, Lecco, Brescia and Cremona

Milan-Bergamo, 15 May 2008 – Pirelli Eco Technology, a company in the Pirelli Group active in technology for lowering pollutant emissions from diesel engines, signed an agreement for the supply of about 150 particulate filters to some Lombardy-based companies in the Arriva Italia Group, a leading operator in passenger transportation present in Lombardy, Piedmont and Friuli Venezia. The aim of the initiative is to reduce by more than 90% the particulate emissions from about 150 inter-city buses.

                Thanks to installation of the Pirelli filter apparatus, the Arriva Italia Group will reduce by about 12,000 kg annually the particulate matter emitted into the atmosphere by the buses in its fleet in circulation. Thanks to this agreement, the buses of the Arriva Italia Group on which the filter systems are installed, will significantly improve their emissions classes, which will be able to change from Euro 0 or Euro 1 to Euro 3 or Euro 4/5, according to the age and type of engine.
This solution has been realized in accordance with the currently applicable regional norms for prevention and protection of health and environment, which exempt vehicles with particulate filters from possible limits on traffic circulation. The Transportation Ministry, in its Decree published on 13 March 2008, recognized the benefits of this technology, admitting its registration on circulation documents. This allows for modification of the "Euro" class of the bus or heavy vehicle, updating particulate emissions to more recent classes.

                Arriva p.l.c., which is present in Europe in 10 nations and counts more than 15,000 vehicles, is highly committed to environmental protection and involved in various initiatives for containment of fuel and energy consumption and experimentation with alternative and ecological energy sources.
Cesare Salerno, Managing Director of the Arriva Italia Group, said "fitting with particulate filters is an optimal solution which allows for containment of gas emissions even of older vehicles, making them absolutely comparable, from this point of view, with newer vehicles. With this initiative Arriva confirms its commitment to environmental protection, and hopes this commitment can be shared by everyone through greater use of public transportation."
"The choice of the Arriva Italia Group - said Bruno Tronchetti Provera, Managing Director of Pirelli Eco Technology - demonstrates the usefulness of the technology developed by Pirelli in support of the commitment by public transportation companies to combat particulate matter emissions. With the simple substitution of the muffler and installation of our filter system, available in 40 different solutions for buses, transportation companies can comply with EU norms in terms of polluting emissions."

                Pirelli Eco Technology
Pirelli Eco Technology is the company in the Pirelli Group active in solutions for sustainable mobility and reduction of emissions of diesel engines with the production of Gecam, the white diesel, and Feelpure particulate filters. Filter systems for buses and heavy vehicles already in circulation (retrofit) are manufactured in the factory in Arese in the province of Milan. Starting from mid 2008, the new factory in Romania for production of original equipment filters will also be operative.

Arriva p.l.c.
In Italy currently Arriva is the leading privately held public transportation operator, present in Northern Italy with SAB of Bergamo, SIA and SAIA of Brescia, SAL of Lecco, KM of Cremona, ASF of Como, SAF of Udine, TT of Trieste, SADEM of Grugliasco (TO) and SAPAV of Pinerolo (TO) for a total of about 2,500 buses.

Pirelli Ambiente Presented With A Special Award

<text>
              PIRELLI AMBIENTE PRESENTED WITH A SPECIAL AWARD FOR INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS IN THE FIELD OF SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT DURING THE WORLD RENEWABLE ENERGY CONGRESS 2006

GECAM™ EMULSIONED DIESEL FUEL RECOGNISED FOR ITS LOW ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT AND HIGH TECHNOLOGICAL CONTENT

Milan, 25 August 2006 - Pirelli Ambiente Eco Technology , a company within the group active in the field of technology for sustainable development, today received a Special Award for its innovative solutions promoted within the ambit of sustainable transport, in particular the Gecam™ emulsioned diesel fuel, at the 2006 edition of the World Renewable Energy Congress (WREC) , the international conference held in Florence and promoted by the University of Florence and the Centro ABITA (Bioarchitecture and Technological Innovation for the Environment).

In particular, the WREC 2006 International Committee recognised the Gecam™ emulsioned diesel oil's value as a low environmental impact fuel with a high technological content given that its use permits the reduction of the pollutants typical of diesel fuel (fine particulates - with a reduction of over 50% - nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide). The fuel is an emulsion of water (10%) in diesel oil stabilised by a specific combination of additives - patented by the group - that can be used to power heavy vehicles (trucks and buses) and central heating plants. The advantages of the emulsion derive from the presence of the water that ensures more efficient hydrocarbon combustion, thus reducing the formation of particulates as demonstrated by the recent tests (among others) conducted by the ENI Technologies laboratories and by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre at Ispra.

                Gecam™ is currently used in place of traditional diesel fuel by over 10,000 heavy vehicles in Italy and France and by over 400 public and private buildings, making a significant contribution to the reduction of pollution by fine particulates in urban areas.
Pirelli Ambiente Eco Technology has also developed innovative particulate filter technology for exhaust gas treatment systems capable of reducing the particulate emissions of diesel engines by over 90%.

Pirelli "Antismog" Filters Win Environmental Award

http://www.pirelliecotechnology.com/web/news/press_dettaglio.page?uri=/pirelliecotechnology/en_IT/browser/xml/news/news/pirelliecotechnology-en_IT-News1000014247.xml&queryPressString=year:2*

Pirelli "Antismog" Filters Win Environmental Award

<text>
              The Company has won the "Environmentally Friendly Innovation Award 2005", presented by environmentalist organization Legambiente and the Region of Lombardy, for filter technology which reduces diesel engine small particle emissions by approximately 90%

Milan, 13 December 2005 - Pirelli Ambiente Tecnologie , today won the "Environmentally Friendly Innovation Award 2005" for its anti-particulate filter technology , which reduces diesel engine small particle emissions from buses and commercial vehicles by approximately 90% . The prestigious award, presented by environmentalist organization Legambiente and Region of Lombardy , is given each year for innovative technologies, processes, products, services and management systems which generate significant environmental improvements and gives the winner the right to use the award logo for one year.

                Pirelli Ambiente's technology was launched in Italy in early 2005 and is already used in several cities. It is based on filters of porous silicon carbide, a material with unique features of resistance to heat and sudden temperature changes.
The material is processed into a honeycomb structure which can filter exhaust gases and capture the particulate matter, mostly carbon particles, they contain.
The system is particularly effective in dealing with fine particles. The use of special fuels additives or catalysts permits the complete combustion of the captured carbon particles (an automatic regeneration process in the filter).

The capability of Pirelli's new filters to significantly reduce particulate emissions from diesel engines has been demonstrated in tests carried out at the ENI Tecnologie laboratories and the Ispra JRC European Commission Research Centre.
